Better Than Your Momma’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

I am seriously excited about these cookies.  Number one because they mark my first blog post EVER! And number two because these cookies are actually the best that I have ever tasted (sorry mom).  I must say that I have been spoiled, my mom is a great baker and I grew up eating homemade cookies regularly (its no wonder I have a serious sweet tooth).  Over the years I have tried countless chocolate chip cookie recipes but they all just seemed the same.  Well, the wait is over.  Today I got lucky and stumbled upon a real winner.

The chocolate chip cookie is such a staple in any home.  From school functions to holiday parties every baker must have their go-to recipe.  This one came to be today when my daughter asked for some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.  She was insistent, and I finally gave in.

I am ashamed, but that is an absolute lie. She is only 17-months-old and is not yet able to ask for such things.  The truth is, I was craving them.  Yup, it was all me.  With a complete lack of regard for any shot at a beach body summer 2k18.  My husband is at work for the day so I knew I would be free to over-indulge.  I am realizing now that this blog will hold me accountable for how many cookies I actually eat considering the fact that I will have written proof of how many the recipe yields…yikes.

Anyway, when I opened the cabinet my plans came to a screeching halt.  No brown sugar. I was devastated.  No brown sugar meant no cookies.  There was no way around it. Then, all of a sudden there was a little spark inside of me. I was not going to give up that easy.  I was going to make the best darn chocolate chip cookies without brown sugar, and to my surprise that is exactly what I did.

I took a chance. I experimented with some secret ingredients, and now I officially have my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe.  I hope you enjoy them and share this recipe with your family and friends!

Here are a few tips to make sure they turn out just right:

  • Make sure to melt the butter and LET IT COOL for about 5-10 minutes before adding it.  I used salted butter.
  • I always make sure my eggs are at room temperature
  • I like to chill my dough for about 30 minutes, and I also chill it in between batches.  I think it helps the cookie to keep its shape better.
  • When measuring flour my momma always taught me to scoop the flour into the measuring cup with a spoon and then level it with the edge of a knife.  Scooping the flour right out of the bag/container packs down the flour and you end up adding more than you need.
  • I swear, getting a cookie scooper like this one is life changing.  It ensures all your cookies are the same size and makes things SO much easier.
